westcot can I walk away??

Postby bookmantinting » Wed Sep 21, 2011 2:04 am

Hello everyone,

Roughly 12 years ago I got into debt with credit cards which resulted in roughly 13k of debt which was eventually passed on to westcot. I was paying back roughly £250/£300 a month for ages until I wisened up told them I was going to go bankrupt and they agreed to freeze the interest and take less every month- years have passed and Ive p;layed this trick on them several times until today I owe £4700 and Im currently paying £31 a month on the debt.

I thought I was pretty smart until I found your website a few days ago and the penny eventually dropped that I could have saved myself thousands of pounds and a whole lot of heartache if i simply ignored the letters.

My question today is- can I walk away from the £4700? and whats the best way to do it? Lester

use the cebt collector letters on the front page 3 letters and maybe a bill should do it but they may sell it on and you may have to use 3 letters again or they might just give up

Right
After 15 days of not hearing from Wescot (or Nelson and partners as they have now named themselves) I have sent them the second letter- do i wait another 10 days before sending them the 3rd, and as they only have a PO box address i cant get it signed for can I? unless any of you have an address for them?

ok just a quick update- within 3-4 days of me sending nelson and partners the 2nd letter-they sent me a standard letter (i get every month) saying I am late for my payment of £31- I usually wait untill I get this before paying them via card over the phone. But they havent aknowleged my 2 letters. this time Ive printed both letters 1 and 2 again-highlighted the dates and stapled their demand to these letters with a hand written note saying "I refuse to pay a single penny on this acount until i get the requested information"- I have sent this to Nelson and partners recorded delivery and Im still waiting a reply- what happens when they do reply???

right then!!

Ive had the standard acknowledgement letter off Wescot (even though they were also sending me letters under Nelson group solicitors), that they have acknowledges my query and my account is suspended until they investigat etc etc.

I have mysteriously had 5 phone calls in quick succession today from the following numbers

02071330147
01132800022
08000157215
01372820102

I suspect at least one of those numbers is off wescot chasing me -and the others may be connected in trying to catch me out so to speak, i couldnt answer the phone because i was in a lecture, but I noticed them all come in in quick succession one after the other (something that has never happened before), and Im deeply suspicious of their antics.

How do I play this from here on in? What length of time do I give them before I send them letter 3 or do I have to send them a bill now?

right then
The third letter sent recorded delivery last week- Ive just had a reply from nelson Guest and Partners/ wescot

I have received your letter of 9th November 2011. I should reply as I have done with a whole series of these letters that it has no validity in law and that it is known to us that this is an example of a letter taken from the internet. All 1 to 8 points that you make have no validity. please do not seek to send us a purported invoice as it has no legal standing in law.

you are clearly aware of the debt and how it is owed and if you have a genuine dispute, grievance or other worry we will be happy to assist you. otherwise could you please contact Wescot Credit Services with a view to settlement in relation to this matter.

yours faithfully

neslson Guest and partners

where doi I stand on this now- whats the next stage in the game? I had already had a letter roughly 20 days ago saying wescot were looking into my claim and that I wouldnt have to make any payments until they got back to me, I waited over the 10 days before my 3rd letter- Do i still bill them- they do seem a bit on the back foot! :P
