MBNA False advertising

Postby fuzzyx » Mon Aug 22, 2011 11:58 pm

I am wondering if anyone here has seen the same MBNA false advertising I did.

During the second half of 2008 I opened a MBNA credit card account to take up their offers like "Balance transfers made before 27th of November 2008 will be charged 0% interest until 1st of September 2009" and “0% on Card Purchases made before 1st of December 2008”

All well and nice but MBNA during 2009 said these agreements they terminated (during 2008) due to the fact that my very first payment was one day late. A fact I should add that my bank disputes.

My problem is not that MBNA terminated these offers, without at any point telling me, but that on my ONLINE MBNA ACCOUNT these offers were still advertised to me as active. This explains why I did several large balance transfers from my online account while reading "Balance transfers made before 27th of November 2008 will be charged 0% interest until 1st of September 2009" and only expecting to pay the one-off transfer fee.

In conclusion MBNA's false advertising of offers they later confirmed as cancelled early on lead me to make many debits to this account in the belief they would be zero rated. They stated it online right up until these offers naturally expired but since MBNA have refused to deal with this false advertising matter and to honour these agreements.

As a result my regular payments to them ceased and I ignored all the debt collection agencies since. Now Varde want me in court and it would sure help my case if anyone here discovered this same false advertising problem I did.

In all I am shocked that a credit card agency could be so careless and reckless. Their online system ran automatically outside their control preventing these offers being cancelled online when they should have been. False advertising is unlawful and so is MBNA.

Yes I had the same problem. I borrowed to pay off all my balance in October 2010 to take advantage of their "0% deal" and was surprised to see massive interest being charged. They actually had the gall to say that it was because of a previous late payment that took place before the promotion and before I had fully paid off the debt!!

I now have the problem that one inadvertent late payment is going to cost me hundreds of pounds. I have written to them to reconsider and with an acceptable payment plan but I suspect that they want their "pound of flesh" because they have already called and e-mailed for "arrears" on interest that is not even due yet :x

On principle, I am perfectly ok to pay off my 0% balance (despite the "transfer fee") but when you are met with this inhumane "we can't do anything - pay up now" attitude, they really make you want to fight back on the same "unreasonable" terms. I'm glad I found this site to fight fire with fire!
