MBNA Ireland need help deb

Postby MBNAhelp » Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:51 pm

Hi all

Thanks for setting this up
ok my situation

MBNA debt around 12k
about 18 months ago told them i was in financial difficulty, they said sorry can't do anything till you in arrears
kept going paying off what i could then they increased min payments
fell into arrears, made about a 1k payment last year
then went into arrears again
i now am in arrears of about 1.2k
every month i have paid off 110 euros so have never refused to pay
they wrote said given the financial info i gave them i can't pay my debt so they can't freeze payments or put me on a reducded payment

want me to ring them to talk about, i have seen on other forums, that their idea is to say, sure we will put you on reducded payments if you can just clear the arrears, when you do that they then say well if you can cough up that amount you can pay us more.

the stupid thing is they say call and you might be able to do a short settlement, how could i afford that

anyways my questions are
what happens when it goes to debt collection
i am no longer living in ireland but my partner is, so don't want her getting hassled
i also have an ex wife and she knows my address of where i am, so that complicates matters
when it goes to debt collection can i negoiate with them or whats my course of action

thanks so much

Hi

So when you say hassle is there physical calling to door etc or anything like that. or is it just letters

Can you outline my course of action
Will the letters work or can I arrange to make. Payment of 20 euro a month

Do I need to tell them I'm living abroad. I don't care about credit rating as I m not returning to Ireland for foreseeable future

Thanks

depending who you get some will threaten door visits but denial of access sorts that out

up to you but yes the letters work just read success stories

up to you i would not though

Thanks for your rapid response. So once goes to debt collection I start with the letters for debt collection

The denial of access does that work in an apartment building. What a mess I'm in

Thanks again for your help

So wait for it to go to recovery
And then start letters

thanks for the replies, and sorry to keep asking so, even though i am still paying them around 130 a month, when it goes to debt recovery i start with the three letters approach

what happens if they just say we don't accept that, or something like

and does it go to their recovery department and then a debt collector

thanks,
