Direct Debit charges whilst on benefits..

Postby JargonBuster » Sat Jun 30, 2012 5:38 pm

Ive had a few direct debits that havnt gone out due to situations unavoidable but the bank still wants paying for nowt!..So i rang em and said that in on benefits and the £ charge is gonna put me in hardship and it will escalate as i cant afford to pay it!...he came back and said u have already had charges cancelled previously and we cant keep doing that so u will have to pay it!...i paused for a sec then told him i was recording the converstaion lol and that i know that the FSA regs on banks have to cancel any charges if it means hardship to the person!..he went a bit funny and said he was gonna terminate the convo to which i said i wasnt really recording the convo i just wanted to see his response lol..He then said i will have a word with his manager(yeah right!)to get this charge cancelled...10 secs later he came back!....Good news Mr Buster! we have cancelled the charge but remember to keep an eye on yer account so it doesnt happen again!..he wished me well and it ended quite satisfactory!..So basically if u on benefits u dont have to pay the bank charges by law ...they just dont like to divulge the truth till u quote it.This is probably common knowledge but i thought id share my success with ya tc all.

Wish I'd known this a few years ago :(
