Wouldn't have thought their system was set up for that. I don't know, but I would have thought there is some act or statute that states that the generators of our power have to market it through franchises like npower and all the other parasites. Maggie's alleged competition.

Yes, if you aren't using their meter (property) to divert the flow of energy to the fuse box, and you have your own meter, which is your own property then your former energy company cannot bill you as they don't know what you are using and you are no longer using their services anymore. So would national grid get in contact with you? Would they be able to track your usage? Also would you or your friend of a friend have to contact the national grid to have your electricity cut off whilst doing the replacement? Gypsies can manage to do this, I'm sure they get no bills, so so can we! :D

You still have to remain in honour. Your strawman is still in contract with the previous meter owner so you must notify them that you have removed their property and offer to send them readings from your meter and settle any account in the proper way - AFV. If they do not respond then fair enough, but you will still be in honour. Your route looks as if it may cause a controversy in that they may challenge you for changing the meter without notifying them.

Good point josh.Another good point is national grid can't refuse mains supply. So if you see my "shipperless" post,it says you are shipperless if:- 1] You don't have a MPAN =meter point administration number - you wouldn't if the meter was removed. 2] You do not get billed Or.... 3] You have had no service for 3 months or longer. This is from a gas industry worker. If you are shipperless, are you breaking any "law" or doing anything wrong? I don't know, but I think maybe not.

Not sure about gas Rob + there are more safety issues with gas meters.

Ok so heres something to think about. I can remember cases where people have been found guilty of bypassing the electricity meter. I dont know if it was for using electricity without paying or whether it was for tampering with the meter. I am a little dubious. Also if you live in a block of flats can the Housing association/council kick you out for changing the meter?
