Browsing through the forum I see the issue on water. I had a out side meter installed some months back had a bill saying I had use 525 litres a day average there saying is 150, so bit shocked! we have use this much. I have wife 2 kids but seems alot. So the other day caught lady just about to take the reading, quick chat then I took the reading too. last reading on 26/4 was 1212, this time 1384, so use 172. funny that it not 525, think i'm being mugged here.

I know by law they can not lawfully cut a water supply to you your house?, was just about to call Southern Water about this but reading about this promissory note could you adivse me on the best course of action.

I pay around £34, it went down to £30, great, now they are saying, if I carry on it will almost double end of the year. Theres no way I'm paying that.

Any help be much appreciated.

I live alone and on benefits but in 3-bed house, they want £280 off me! What a laugh!

I would like to avoid the water charges but in my last experience with the council they have just returned my prom' note and threatened me with their debt collection dept'! Now, I'm not sure if it's the council or the water company I should be dealing with here so any advice on how to take action would be welcome.
On another point, our water company, as most UK water companies do, add Chlorine into the water and depending on your water company /area also Fluoride. I was watching a video by Ben Lowery and the Spaniard on collecting money from corp's that fail to provide a service in some way. Now, I have been researching a lot of scientific literature on the negative health effects of these aforementioned chemicals added to the water supply. Now, in the interests of HEALTH and safety, if I have to install a full house water system to remove those chemicals at a cost of lets say £700 for installation and any annual maintenance, is it possible to bill the water company for this requirement, providing they cannot do it for us? Any thoughts on this would be welcomed.

I live alone (with 87 year old tortoise) I drink about 4 litres of coffee a day, take quick showers, don't leave taps on and am pretty economical with the stuff as it amazes me to think it was formed in space and travelled here as ice on big things aeons and aeons ago!

Actually I've no idea what STW want me to pay, let me antagonise them with a quick call....

£1.52 per cubic square meter or 1,000 litres is what they charge. Meter was last read in January and by my mathematics on the cost of distillation to take out the crap they put in they owe me debt tokens!

I last paid them in February last year. I'll send them an invoice when they bother me next.

Their money system is based on book-keeping columns, I'll give them some figures to get my account balanced as I would distill or incur those charges if I though the water they supplied was fit for human consumption.

Hi Ceylon, I have accepted for value SW Water bill as you describe, all except a seperate prom note ( I really dont see why they should be paid twice), sending the notice ltr and quoting all the legislation etc. They have objected of course but kept the accepted BGC slip, I sent another notice and there reply was the threat of court action if not paid in a certain time. I have now recieved the Northampton court docs and would like your advice on the best way to proceed please.
